The oranges worth Rs 579 million have been sold in Syangja this year.
Although the production of oranges has decreased compared to last year, the market price has been good and the same amount of oranges have been sold. The district has produced 13,840 metric tonnes of oranges this year, according to the Agriculture Knowledge Center Syangja.
Of the produced oranges, 25 per cent or 3,460 metric tonnes were consumed by the farmers themselves and the remaining 10,380 metric tonnes or 75 per cent was sold, said Binod Hamal, head of the center. Orange orchards are spread over a total area of 1,969 hectares in the district. Out of them, oranges are cultivated in an area of only 1,380 hectares, according to the center.

The farm produced 17 thousand 632 tons of oranges. Although the production of oranges was higher last year than last year, due to lack of fair market price and low price, the farmers have reduced the sales volume and used it as koseli, said Chief Hamal. “Farmers have been focusing more on sales than Koseli due to higher prices this year,” he said.
Last year, the district produced oranges worth Rs. 793.44 million, but a total of Rs. 550 million worth of oranges were sold. Farmers had sold oranges at Rs 45 per kg and Rs 75 per kg last year.
